Name – Sri Lankan sambar deer
Location – Horton Plains, Srilanka
The Sri Lankan sambar is the largest subspecies of the sambar deer. The term “sambar” itself has been derived from the name of this animal according to some sources. All members of the family Cervidae are known for their antlers, but the Sri Lankan sambar differs from all other subspecies of Sambar deer by its enormous size and outstanding body proportions. The characteristics that make it distinct are its coat, antler, and body size.
