A logo is not just symbol. It is the face of your brand. A successful logo can enhance your identity. Thinking it as just a graphic design work will not be helpful in any condition. Here are some of key points we miss and that has to avoid when choosing a designer.
1.Know exactly what you want
If you choose a designer just considering the portfolio and you like the works there , you are making a mistake.1st you have to select the logo that you need to design and then the right designer for the work. There will be different types of logo and different types of techniques.
So at first, decide What is your Identity? what will be you brand name? What is the strategy? and do the research and then choose what type of logo design you want. Without doing any of these do not get in toa designer. It will create a mess Without satisfaction.
2.Hiring a friend or relative
Most common way of choosing a designer. Just texting or make a call for a friend or relative that has decent amount of graphic design skill . This actually feels like comfortable. Because you can talk to the designer and do the revisions and most importantly you want need to pay, you just can check the designs. But technically just think of a condition where you have to rebrand and the cost of a much-needed rebranding effort a couple years down the road could be astronomical.
Also give the designer a little bit of respect of what he is doing.
3.Not asking questions
Once you have all the things researched and planned it is recommended to ask lots of questions about the design and to get the knowledge you want. If the designer unable to clarify the conditions it is time to choose another.
4.Same designs everywhere
When you digging deep on the designer’s portfolio and you see the same shapes and structures not using variety of designs it tells you a story. This is not about a style that he or she fallows. If in the portfolio, the quality and styling of designs vary too dramatically from one piece to the next; this denotes a lack of understanding of composition, the design process. If the portfolio has every logo having a new experiment in layer styling, you want to look for someone else.
5.Overdoing the revisions
Once you reach a certain limit you will come to position that the design looks same an you cant think something other than it.That is where you want to stop. It’s easy to spend months nitpicking every aspect of the design. This process should be undertaken with the utmost care considering the importance of a logo in your business image. But going in circles can actually end up taking the “streamlining” process too far.
